The Fairfield County Educational Service Center (ESC) has announced that Emma Morton of Pickerington Central High School has been named as this year’s Franklin B. Walter Award winner for Fairfield County. Morton received a $500 scholarship check from the Fairfield County ESC Governing Board as part of her award.

The Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award Program was established by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) to promote and recognize outstanding academic achievement in graduating high school seniors. Each year, each high school and joint vocational school across the county submits one outstanding graduating senior as their nominee. A committee of educators then selects each county winner from this pool of nominees, scoring each nominee in the areas of GPA, Class Rank, Course Rigor, Community Service, Extracurricular Activities, Awards and Recognitions, Essay, and Letters of Recommendation.

Morton plans to attend Muskingum University to study nursing, with the long-term goal of becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner in orthopedics. Her application included an impressive collection of awards and accomplishments, as well as community involvement and academic excellence.

“We are thrilled to present Emma with not only this well-deserved recognition, but also a scholarship to support her higher education,” said Marie Ward, Ph.D., Superintendent, Fairfield County ESC. “We are proud to have Emma as our Fairfield County representative and wish her all the best in her future academic and professional careers!”

The Fairfield County Educational Service Center provides student-centered educational leadership and supportive services to meet the individual and collective needs of the staff, students and boards of education of the eight local school districts located in Fairfield County.
