Lancaster Playhouse: Bedroom Farce

The Lancaster Playhouse will be back on stage in downtown Lancaster the last two weekends in October with their production of Bedroom Farce, a long-running comedy hit in London and New York by celebrated British playwright Alan Ayckbourn. The five performances, which include two Sunday matinees, are directed by Darnell Lautt.

In the play, Trevor and Susannah, whose marriage is on the rocks, inflict their miseries on their nearest and dearest friends and family: three couples whose own relationships reflect the give and take of married life. We meet the comfortably settled Ernest and Delia; the fun-loving practical jokers Kate and Malcolm; and poor injured Nick and his not so sympathetic wife, Jan. Set in the mid-1970s, the play takes place all in one evening. The non-stop action tests the patience and tempers of all the couples and definitely disturbs their domestic order.

Cast members include Gail Matos, John Pekar, Mary Murphy, Peyman Majidi, Jane O’Brien, Fred Norris, Raia Hirsch, and Scott Poling.

According to Lautt, “It is exciting to be working on this production with this wonderful group of actors. We are having a great time getting to know these unique, distinctive characters. As we dig into the script, we not only find the abundant humor, but we also find poignant moments that make the characters more intriguing and the play even more thought provoking.”

Lautt, who has extensive experience as an actor, director, designer, and technician in professional, educational, and community theatre settings, recently appeared on stage at The Lancaster Playhouse as Athos in Ken Ludwig’s The Three Musketeers.

The show will open on Saturday, October 21 at 7:30 pm, with additional performances set for Friday, October 27th and Saturday, October 28th at 7:30 pm. Matinee performances are set for Sunday, October 22nd and Sunday, October 29th at 2:00 pm. The play will be performed on stage in the beautiful event space at Maria’s Mexican Restaurant, 129 E. Main Street, Lancaster, Ohio.
