Kaitlyn McManis is a senior at Berne Union. She was one of three students who collectively submitted eight pieces to the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition this year. Out of 3,000 entries from 15 different regions, both of Kaitlyn’s art pieces made it into the show, which showcases 300 different art projects from around the state. Her piece, A Thousand Words, made it into the top 25 and received the Governor’s Award of Excellence.

“I am incredibly proud of Kaitlyn and her passion for the arts,” said Christina Clumm, Berne Union art teacher. “She has worked tirelessly to complete these pieces for the art exhibition, and it’s wonderful to see her creativity rewarded so highly. I think I can speak for the rest of Berne Union when I say that we are honored to have Kaitlyn representing us in such a positive and creative way.”

Both of Kaitlyn’s pieces are a form of art called artwear, or wearable art. Her top 25 piece, A Thousand Words, is made solely of various types of paper. If you’re interested in viewing Kaitlyn’s pieces in-person, the 53rd Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition will open for viewing on Sunday, April 23rd, at the Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus.

“We hope that you’ll stop by the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition to view Kaitlyn’s hard work,” said Craig Heath, Principal. “It’s always a joy to see Rockets such as Kaitlyn exhibit a passion for a specific topic or subject, and to see them excel at that passion. Great work, Katie!”
